FAQ
Cross-route questions.
General questions about how Essex Removals runs. Country-specific questions live on each country page.
-
Four destinations: France, Italy, Spain, Portugal. We don't move to Germany, the Netherlands, the Nordics, or beyond Europe — staying narrow lets us know each route by hand. If you need a destination we don't cover, ask and we'll point you to a network partner who specialises in it.
-
Yes. Brentwood, Chelmsford, Colchester, Southend-on-Sea, Romford, Basildon, Harlow, Clacton, Frinton, Maldon, Saffron Walden, all the rural villages and the coastal towns. Surveyor visits anywhere in the county.
-
You send a brief — rough volume, destination address, intended dates. We arrange a surveyor to walk the property at your convenience. After the survey we return a written quote with a single fixed figure covering transit, customs, insurance, and door-to-door handling. No hidden lines.
-
It means we handle the whole chain — survey, packing, customs paperwork, transit, delivery, unpacking if you want it. Your work is to be at the property at collection and at the destination on delivery day. Everything in between is ours.
-
Goods-in-transit cover is included with every move, underwritten by an established UK marine insurer. All-risks options are available for fragile, high-value, or art-grade items — flagged at survey. The certificate of insurance comes with your quote.
-
Yes. Member of the British Association of Removers, including the Overseas Group. The BAR registration covers code-of-conduct and dispute resolution, and confirms financial protection for advance payments.
-
Pets are outside our direct scope but we recommend specialists. Cars are arranged through partner vehicle-transport firms, costed separately. Pianos travel in dedicated cradles with specialist movers. Wine moves under climate-controlled conditions with the right paperwork. All four are line items in the quote.
-
Transit times depend on route, volume, customs clearance, and consolidation scheduling. Your written quote will include an indicative window for your specific move. Country-page FAQs cover the route-specific variables.
-
Storage is available at the Essex departure end and at all four destination depots. Charged separately to the move itself; flexible duration. We'd rather hold your goods safe for a fortnight than push a delivery your destination isn't ready for.
-
Yes. EORI, ToR1 (transfer of residence relief), HMRC C1331, and the destination-country douanes / dogane / aduanas / alfândegas filings. Your part is to provide the inventory information at survey; we handle the forms.
-
You send a brief; we call to find a date that suits, and the surveyor visits your Essex property. Around an hour for a typical four-bedroom. No obligation, no pressure on the day, no figure pushed. The written quote follows by email a few days later.
-
Often, yes — a relative's home in Suffolk, a storage unit in East London, an attic in Cambridge. The additional collection point is added at survey and rolled into the same fixed figure. For more than two pickups we cost separately.
-
Yes, where you are arranging your own move. Pack-only is more often booked when the timeline splits — household contents go now, the customer follows months later. Full pack-and-move remains the more common arrangement for international corridors.
-
A signed quote and a deposit confirm the booking. The balance is due before the load departs Essex. Booking sits inside our standard BAR Overseas Group terms; cancellation, claims, and payment windows are stated on the quote document.
-
The destination team makes a pre-delivery call to flag village weight limits, lift bookings, comunidad windows, syndic clearance, calçada permits — whatever the property requires. Where the load needs staging from a smaller vehicle, it is built into the day. Surprises on delivery are rare; access is the surveyor's most-asked question.
-
Either, depending on volume, dates, and route. Shared loads consolidate with other moves heading the same way and are routed on a schedule; dedicated loads run on your dates. Both are fully tracked. Your written quote names which configuration applies and why.
